by ATLANTA, — The Atlanta Dream will begin its quest for a seventh consecutive trip to the WNBA playoffs, its fourth trip to the WNBA Finals and its first WNBA Championship when the team tips off the 2015 regular season on Friday, June 5, in Madison Square Garden against the New York Liberty. The Dream makes its home debut at Philips Arena on Sunday, June 7, against the Connecticut Sun.
“2015 promises to be another exciting season for the Atlanta Dream as we continue our quest to bring a WNBA Championship to the Atlanta Community and our Dream fans,” said President and General Manger Angela Taylor. “Throughout the season, fans will be treated to the best women’s basketball in the world and an entertaining in-arena experience.”
The Dream will play 17 home games against the top women’s basketball players in the world at Philips Arena this summer, including 11 weekend dates. The Dream begins defense of its 2014 regular season Eastern Conference Championship with a busy June that includes five of its six home games against Eastern Conference foes, beginning with a match-up against 2014 Rookie of the Year Chiney Ogwumike and the Connecticut Sun.
Highlights of the home schedule also include contests against Elena Delle Donne and the defending Eastern Conference Champion Chicago Sky on June 19 and Aug. 29, and a visit by Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner and the defending WNBA champion Phoenix Mercury in the team’s annual Dream Pink game on Aug. 2.
Maya Moore and the Minnesota Lynx will visit Philips Arena on Aug. 14, and the Dream will have a Sept. 9 showdown against Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks. In addition, the Dream will have a pair of weekday noon tip-offs, with the annual Kids Day game slated for June 16 against Indiana, and School Day on Aug. 25 against Connecticut.
The Dream will also once again have a number of theme nights to add to the entertainment and excitement of home games. In addition to the Dream Pink game and the Kids and School Days games, other highlights include Caribbean Night (June 11), Native American Heritage Weekend and Dads and Daughters Weekend (June 19 and 21), Pride Night (June 26), Hoops for Troops (July 5), Brazilian Night (Aug. 14), Dream Fit (Sept. 6) and Fan Appreciation Night (Sept. 11). Further details on each theme night will be announced at a later date.
The Dream’s 34-game schedule for 2015 will include 22 games against the five other teams from the Eastern Conference. The Dream will play five games against Connecticut and New York, and four each against Chicago, Indiana and Washington. The other 12 games will come against the six Western Conference teams, with one home and one road game against each opponent.
The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream completed its seventh season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 2014. The Dream has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, and won conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
