6th-ranked Destin McCauley (Omaha Tribe) at 149lbs Helps Nebraska-Kearney Beat #12 Central Oklahoma

Kearney, Neb. – The 6th-ranked Nebraska Kearney wrestling team use three falls to beat 12th-ranked Central Oklahoma, 30-13, Sunday afternoon in Edmond.

This was the final dual for both teams. UNK finishes 2014-15 at 9-7 (4-1) while the Bronchos fall to 7-9 (2-3).

UNK took the air out of the building by winning the first five weight classes to open up a 21-0 lead. Top-ranked Daniel DeShazer (133 lbs.) pinned 5th-ranked Dustin Reed at 2:53 while 6th-ranked Destin McCauley (149 lbs./Omaha Tribe of Nebraska) put Spencer Rutherford on his back at 3:42.

At 157 lbs., 4th-ranked Chase White (Lincoln H.S.) managed a late second period takedown to win 3-2 with top-ranked Romero Cotton (Hutchinson, Kan.) stopping  a Broncho win streak by pinning Michael Connor at 1:41.

Finally, heavyweight Ivan DeLeon (Katy, Texas) used some riding time to win 2-1 to finish UNK’s scoring.

Next Sunday, UNK is at the MIAA Championships in Warrensburg, Mo. The Lopers are two-time defending tournament champions.
