Thunderbirds’ Ethan Bear (Cree First Nations) named Western Hockey League Player of the Week

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Seattle Thunderbirds defenceman Ethan Bear has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 7, 2017.

Bear registered three points (1G-2A) in two games as the Thunderbirds split the opening two contests of the 2017 WHL Championship Series presented by Rogers in Regina.

Back in the lineup after missing time due to injury, Bear logged a goal and an assist on Friday, May 5, as the Thunderbirds claimed a 2-1 overtime win at Regina to open the 2017 WHL Championship Series. The performance was good enough for third-star honours. On Saturday, May 6, Bear tallied one assist as the Thunderbirds fell to the Regina Pats in overtime by a 4-3 margin.

Bear sits second in WHL Playoffs scoring among all WHL defencemen with 19 points (6G-13A) in 13 games. His six goals are tied for first among all WHL defencemen.
