The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (8-2, 5-0 in ACCAC) took complete control of its game in the second half against South Mountain Community College (4-5, 2-3).
The No. 5 ranked Aztecs went on to beat the Cougars 102-59 on Saturday at the West Campus after outscoring them 62-20 to end the game.
The Aztecs and Cougars tied at 15-15 after the first quarter and Pima took a 40-39 lead at the break.
The Aztecs went on a 15-3 run to close out the third quarter to take a 71-49 lead.
The Aztecs produced four scorers in double figures as freshman Jacqulynn Nakai (Navajo) led the way with a team-high 18 points to go along with seven assists. Fellow freshman Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Christine Ortega (Flowing Wells HS) had 15 points and nine rebounds while freshman RyLeigh Long had 10 points off the bench. Sophomore Aubre Fortnerposted seven points and 11 rebounds.
The Aztecs remain undefeated in ACCAC conference play heading into the holiday break. They return to action at the West Campus Gymnasium for the annual Bruce Fleck Classic from Dec. 28-30. They’ll play Harcum College on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
