MADISON, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) — The Green Bay men’s basketball team ran into a hot shooting Wisconsin side in the first half on Saturday evening, eventually falling 81-60 at the Kohl Center in its final nonconference game of the season. GB (5-8) finishes the nonconference season with a 5-8 record and will now turn its attention to Horizon League play, which will begin next weekend.
Wisconsin (6-7) shot 61.3 percent in the first half, and took a 20-point lead into halftime before holding off GB in the second half. The Badgers also outrebounded the Phoenix by a final tally of 40-20, and scored 46 points in the paint compared to GB’s 14.
Khalil Small reached double-figures for the 12th-straight game, finishing with 12 points in 25 minutes. Sandy Cohen III (Oneida Nation) registered 13 points in his second active game, while PJ Pipes finished with 11 points. Pipes has now reached double-figures in his last four games.
Green Bay finished 14-for-17 at the free throw line, while Wisconsin went 16-for-20. Wisconsin only won the second half by a point, 37-36.
Brad Davison led Wisconsin with 18 points, helping the Badgers improve to 23-1 all-time against Green Bay.
The Badgers opened up a 15-4 lead to start the game and used another 13-0 run late in the first half to take control.
The Phoenix will now prepare for the Horizon League season, which begins next Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Resch Center. GB will host Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. and Oakland on Saturday (Dec. 30, 12 noon).
