LAWTON — The Cameron women’s basketball team fell 54-51 to St. Mary’s on Saturday in the Aggie Gym.
The Aggies entered the final 10 seconds down by a three-pointer, but a turnover delivered the game in favor of the Rattlers who move to 7-8 overall while CU drops to 4-8 on the year.
Ava Battese (Comanche/PBPN) led the Aggies with 14 points, and Parfitt McNair added 10. Jamie Bonnarens had a team high six assists. Lejha Smith grabbed 13 rebounds.
Leading the Rattlers was Soteria Banks with 16 points, and Arysia Porter had 11 points.
Cameron started the game with a great first quarter outing, taking a 10 point run during a five minute Rattler scoring drought to lead 15-8. St. Mary’s came back strong in the second quarter, outscoring CU 17-12 narrowing their deficit to 27-25 at the half.
Out of the locker room, St. Mary’s grabbed their first lead since the game’s opening minutes. Cameron kept them within three points then used a seven point run to take the lead back 43-41 into the final period.
The final quarter saw cold shooting from the Aggies who scored just 8 points with 25 percent shooting from the field and 4-for-8 at the line. A turnover stifled CU’s last chance and brought a 54-51 loss to the Rattlers.
CU finished the game shooting 34 percent from the field with eight three-pointers and 56 percent at the line. St. Mary’s shot 39 percent on the floor, had three treys and went a perfect 5-for-5 at the line.
