Green Bay Phoenix junior Sandy Cohen III (Oneida) has been named Horizon League’s Player of the Week

NDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Helping lead Green Bay to a 2-0 start in league play with a pair of impressive performances, Sandy Cohen III (Oneida Tribe) has been named the Horizon League’s Player of the Week, respectively. It’s the first HL weekly award for any GB men’s basketball player this year and the first career awards for Cohen III.

Cohen III is averaging 20.5 PPG through the first two Horizon League games, leading Green Bay to back-to-back home victories over Detroit Mercy and Oakland for a 2-0 start in league. The redshirt-junior scored a career-high 24 in the team’s win over the Titans, before netting 17 points and 12 rebounds for his first career double-double against league-favorite Oakland in the Phoenix’s 80-79 thrilling upset victory. Cohen III is third in the HL in scoring through the first weekend of league play and is fourth in rebounding (9.0 RPG), all while shooting 46.7 percent (14-for-30) from the field and converting on 9 of his 11 free throw attempts. The Seymour-native also notched 3 blocks and 3 steals in the win over Oakland, and leads the Phoenix in scoring now with 17.5 PPG over the last four games he’s been active.
