Kendra Keahbone (Kiowa/Pueblo) pitches complete game to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a 4-3 win over Colorado School of Mines

AZTEC, N.M. – February 26, 2018 – Kendra Keahbone (Kiowa/Taos Pueblo) pitched a complete game Monday morning to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a 4-3 win over Colorado School of Mines at the Aztec Tiger Sports Complex.  The win marked the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win of the season for the Skyhawks.  FLC lost the series finale, 13-3 in six innings.

Allison Young started the game at the plate for FLC, drawing a walk and then stealing second base.  Angelique Elemen brought her home with a double to give FLC a 1-0 lead after the first inning.

The Orediggers notched two runs in the top of the second, but FLC regained the lead in the bottom of third inning, 3-1.  Young again started the inning off for FLC and hit a double to left field.  She crossed home plate when Denae Fisher hit a double to right center.  Lauren Caldwell followed with a double to score Fisher.

Three scoreless innings later, CSM tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh off a Skyhawks error.  FLC responded in the seventh inning with loaded bases.  Elemen led off the inning after being hit by a pitch.  She advanced to third base from Caldwell’s double.  Tristen Gilbert loaded the bases after drawing a walk.  Robyn Hall brought home the winning run after being hit by a pitch for the second time in the game.

FLC accounted for seven hits against the Orediggers. Young and Caldwell combined for four hits.  Six of FLC’s hits were extra-base hits. Caldwell (two), Fisher, Elemen and Madelynne Blood-Smith posted doubles and Young added a triple.

Keahbone struck out five batters and allowed only two earned runs on seven hits.

In the series finale against the Orediggers, FLC held a 3-1 lead over Orediggers after two innings, and a one run lead after the fourth inning, 3-2.

The Orediggers plated eight runs in the fifth inning on three hits.  CSM drew five walks and the Skyhawks committed an error and three passed balls as the Orediggers took a 10-3 lead.  CSM sealed the win with three more runs in the sixth inning and held the Skyhawks scoreless in the bottom of the sixth.

Hall notched a double and Fisher added a triple as the Skyhawks posted four hits.  Fished added a stolen base, her 14th on the season, along with Young and Kellsi Peterson.

The Skyhawks (7-11, 1-3 RMAC) will play host to Colorado Christian University on March 3-4 in Aztec, N.M.
