(Lawrence, Kansas) – Haskell Indian Nations University middle blocker  Alliyah Richards (JR/Roosevelt, UT)  finished the 2018 season ranked 7 in Division I in Kills per Game (4.300) and ranked 11 in Division I in Total Kills (482) and was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NAIA All-American for the North Central Region.

From the start, Head Coach Nana Allison-Brewer said, “Alliyah has believed!  I vividly remember Alliyah speaking at the fall convocation, as the team spokes person, and she publicly said to her classmates and team that this team can win a conference Championship and return to Nationals.  Then weeks later, it was during a practice that she pointed to the ceiling in our gym [Coffin Sports Complex] and said something to the effect as “Volleyball needs a Champion Banner.  That can be us!”  The 2018 season has been a dream season as the Haskell Indian nations Volleyball team finished as A.I.I. Conference CHAMPIONS, the 1st in school history.”

The entire team came aboard and continued to battle during those tough losses when falling short to quality teams in the NAIA power conferences.  However, these solid teams prepared the Indians for the A.I.I. Conference Tournament where they defeated the IU Northwest (seeded no. 1) in three straight sets.  Alliyah earned the Most Valuable Player Award of the A.I.I. Tournament and was also awarded a member into the A.I.I. 1st Team All-Conference Team, and NAIA Champions of Character Award.

The junior Middle hitter has currently has played in 298 games where she has tallied 942 kills in 2,345 attempts.  She has 331 digs where 228 of those digs came this 2018 season.  She has 70 block solos and 93 block assists totaling 163 blocks combined.
