STILLWATER—The Oklahoma State men’s basketball team defeated Texas, 61-58, to earn its first Big 12 victory of the season Tuesday night inside of Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Lindy Waters (Kiowa/Cherokee) put on a 3-point clinic, making all of his career-high five attempts from beyond the 3-point line. His efforts led to a career-best scoring performance of 19 points. He also grabbed nine rebounds, barely missing out on a double-double. His 5-for-5 night tied for OSU’s school record for best 3-point percentage in a game.
Waters moved into the top 25 in OSU’s history in 3-point field goals. With his five makes from beyond the arc, his career total surpassed the century mark. He now sits at 100 made 3s in his career.
The Cowboys (7-8, 1-2 Big 12) claimed control of the game when they went on a 24-10 run. The stretch started with 9:29 to go in the first half and ended with 1:05 seconds remaining in the opening half of play.
OSU held off a late Texas (10-5, 2-1) run to clinch the victory. Isaac Likekele scored four points down the stretch, including two clutch free throws with 10 seconds left. On the final possession of the game, the Cowboys fended off a last-second 3 from Texas’ Courtney Ramey.
Cameron McGriff almost notched another double-double. McGriff scored 12 points and collected eight rebounds.
Thomas Dziagwa and Michael Weathers also scored 10 points apiece. The pair combined for eight made free throws and five made field goals.
OSU shut down Texas from the perimeter. The Cowboys only allowed two 3-pointers, as the Longhorns went 2-for-22 from behind the 3-point line.
OSU also outrebounded the Longhorns 38-30 and won the battle on the offensive glass 12-7.
