Trista Takes Enemy (Yakama Tribe) scored 39 points in the Yakima Valley College women’s first two NWAC East Region games last week, but the Yaks nonetheless dropped a 94-92 decision at Treasure Valley and a 70-57 contest at Walla Walla. Takes Enemy had 20 points in the Wednesday contest against TVCC at Ontario, Ore., and 19 in Saturday’s loss at Walla Walla.
Losers of their last four games, the Yaks fell to 9-5 for the season. Yakima Valley hosts its first region game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Spokane in Sherar Gym. YVC visits Big Bend at Moses Lake on Saturday.
At Treasure Valley, Jenni Johnson scored a team-high 25 points. She hit 10 of 15 shots, including three 3-pointers, while also collecting nine rebounds. Takes Enemy dealt eight assists, but YVC had no answer for Treasure Valley’s Paige Vorwaller’s 29 points and 20 rebounds. Vorwaller’s two free throws with 18 seconds left gave the Chukars their margin of victory, and she later rebounded an errant Yakima Valley 3-pointer to seal the Yaks’ defeat. Kamri Von Oelhoffenscored 18 points for YVC and Kalli Willett added 12.
At Walla Walla, which claimed the 2018 NWAC championship, Von Oelhoffen backed Takes Enemy with 11 points, but was the only other YVC player to score in double figures.
Yakima Valley made 6 of 28 3-pointers compared with the Warriors’ 11 for 18. The Yaks were also 5 of 8 from the foul line while Walla Walla made 11 of 21, and YVC was outrebounded 42-19.
