by Mesa, AZ – A valiant comeback effort by the Mesa Thunderbirds women’s basketball team falls short Saturday afternoon as the T-Birds lost to Central Arizona, 71-67.
The T-Birds played solid basketball for three quarters but it was a cold first quarter that made the difference in the end. The Vaquera’s took an 18-5 lead heading into the second quarter but a 21 point second quarter and 25 third quarter helped the T-Birds tie the game heading into the final 10 minutes.
Mesa had a chance to tie as the final seconds were ticking down but a missed three-pointer halted their final chance of overtime.
Cheyanne Begay (Navajo) finished with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists while Diamond Fuller finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
