Thunderbirds escape with 95-89 win at Miles CC
United Tribes was on the road at Miles Community College for their regular season finale and if the previous 13 Mon Dak Conference games were any indication this one was going to go down to the wire. Not only did this game come down to the last possesion in regulation, but the Thunderbirds would need overtime to escape with a 95-89 win. The Pioneers desperation heave at the end of regulation missed and the two teams would head to overtime tied 78-78. In the overtime period Joe Sazue III got hot. The freshman guard hit three straight three pointers and the Thunderbirds jumped out to a 87-78 lead. United Tribes made free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Rob McClain Jr. recorded a triple double with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists. Montel Carlowpoured in 34 points and Sazue finished with 20. Robert Beaulieu had another double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
With the win the Thunderbirds finish the regular season with a 16-14 record and a fourth place finish in the Mon Dak Conference standings.
