Nevada’s Kali Sargent (Washoe Tribe) had a new season high of 10 strikeouts

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada softball team regains momentum after a 6-4 win over the Utah State Aggies in the second game of the series. The Pack is now 14-9, 1-1 overall.

Sophomore Julia Jensen got the start in the circle and pitched two complete innings but had four runs so Kali Sargent (Washoe Tribe) entered the game in the top of the third. The senior went on to record a new season high, 10 strikeouts and not allow a single run in the five innings she pitched. Along with no runs she only allowed three hits and issued zero walks. She got the win and isn ow 3-5 on the season.

On the offensive side, junior Sadaria McAlister had her best game of the year after going 4-for-4 at the plate, tying a career high in single game hits. The Reno native also tallied five RBI with two home runs in the contest; both career highs for a single game.

The first run of the game was a solo homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the first to put the Pack up 1-0 early. Utah State responded with four runs in the top of the second after the Aggies loaded the bases with no outs. Jensen worked out of the inning but Utah State lead, 4-1 in just an inning and a half of game.

In the bottom of the second, Nevada answered right back with two runs after stringing together three singles and drawing two walks. The Pack cut it 4-3 but regained the lead when McAlister hit her two RBI home run in the bottom of the fourth, 5-4.

It did not look like there would be anymore runs in the game with the pitching staff working in the circle but Nevada gained an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Haley Burda singled up the middle and Aubrey Slocum pinch ran at first. None other than McAlister drove her in on an RBI single up the middle to take the score up to 6-4.
