The Benedictine University Mesa softball team went 3-3 last week, including a huge split of a series against conference favorite Simpson, and had a player honored for her efforts.
Freshman Rose Soza-Gonzalez (Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians) was named California Pacific Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance over games played between March 18-24, the conference announced Monday.
Soza-Gonzalez had an oustanding series against Simpson in the circle this weekend, pitching a total of 14 innings and giving up just four earned runs as BenU Mesa picked up their first victories ever against the Red Hawks.
She saved her best performance for the Sunday finale against Simpson, as she earned the win by pitching a complete game, holding the Red Hawks to just two runs on five hits and striking out three batters in a 3-2 victory.
She is the first BenU Mesa player to earn weekly honors this season and it is the first Pitcher of the Week honor in her young career.
