by LAS VEGAS, Nev. – With the Bulldogs trailing 3-2 and down to their final out in the seventh inning Hayleigh Galvan (Cherokee Nation) hit a three-run home run (watch) to lead her team to a 5-3 win in the series finale at UNLV on Sunday.
Fresno State (24-12, 3-6 MW) handed UNLV (26-9, 7-4 MW) its first MW series loss of the season, winning the last two games of the series against a Rebel team that had been 14-2 at home this season. On Sunday the ‘Dogs battled back from down 2-0 to tie it and, with the potential tying run at second base, Galvan left the yard to center and freshman Danielle Lung finished off UNLV in the seventh for her 10th victory.
Rachel Minogue was 2-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI and helped set the table for Galvan as she singled after Miranda Rohleder drew a nine-pitch walk with one out in the seventh inning. Galvan also had two hits in the contest as the Bulldogs scored five runs against UNLV ace Jenny Bressler, who led the MW with a 16-3 record and a 1.58 season ERA coming into the game.
