Trevon Allen (Umatilla) drops 22 Points for Vandals who fall to UCD

JONESBORO, Ark. – The Idaho men’s basketball team led for most of the game, but UC Davis won, 65-64, in the first game of the Red Wolves Classic on Thursday afternoon.

THE GAME
The Vandals (1-2) took an immediate 2-0 lead and never trailed in the first half. Senior Trevon Allen (Umatilla) scored 19 points in the period, and Idaho led by as many as 12 points, taking a 36-28 lead into the locker room.

The Aggies (2-1) came out of the break on a 5-0 run, but an Allen three-pointer brought a stop to that run. The Vandals pushed the cushion out to as many as 12 again in the second half, however, UC Davis made two consecutive three-pointers to get within one, 56-55, with just under eight minutes to play.

The Aggies took their first lead of the game, 61-60, with 4:23 remaining in the game. The final minutes of the game would be back-and-forth, with two ties and four lead changes. With five seconds left, UC Davis led by one and went to the free throw line for a one-and-one. Matt Neufeld missed the front end and Allen grabbed the rebound, but the team could not get a shot off, and dropped the heartbreaker.

Allen led the Vandals in scoring for the third straight game, finishing with 22 points. Quinton Forrest had five points and 10 rebounds, while Marquell Fraser scored 13 points.

THE NOTES
Quinton Forrest had 10 rebounds in the game. He now has double digit boards in two of the three games this season.

Forrest, who entered the game tied for the conference lead in offensive rebounds, kept up the pace, recording five offensive boards.

Early in the game, the Aggies had nine turnovers, while the Vandals had just one. For the game, the Vandals had 14 turnovers, while UCD had 15.

Idaho has held a lead at halftime in all three games this year.

The Vandals did not score from the field in the final seven minutes of the game.
