ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The UMN Morris women’s basketball team (2-2) topped St. Olaf (2-2), 79-72, Saturday to close out the 2019 St. Benedict’s Classic. Freshman Haley Wollschlager led the way for the Cougars with 17 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars opened up with the game scoring the first six points.
- As time expired in the first quarter, Ab8by Van Kempen connected on a layup to tie the game at 19-all.
- The two teams kept things close in the second quarter as Morris held the largest lead of the quarter at 37-33 with 2:43 to play.
- With the first half in the books, the Cougars held a 38-37 lead over the Oles.
- The Oles then used a 28-18 third quarter to take a 65-56 lead over UMN Morris into the fourth quarter.
- Trailing by nine heading into the final quarter of regulation, the Cougars flipped the script and outscored the Oles by 16 in the fourth en route to the 79-72 victory.
- The fourth quarter was highlighted by the Cougars using a 15-0 run over the first 5:57 to play.
NOTABLES
- Along with 17 points from Wollschlager, Mia Wassink had 15 points and Lexus Eagle Chasing (Cheyenne River Sioux) scored 14 points.
- Eagle Chasing recorded her first double-double of the season as she had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- A. Van Kempen, Eagle Chasing and Jay Kwateh each had three steals.
- The Cougars capitalized from the free throw line in the fourth quarter going 12-of-14.
