Seanna Boltz (Oglala Lakota) helps Cowley Lady Tigers wrap up non-conference play with 10-0 mark

With conference play set to begin on Tuesday, the Cowley College women’s basketball team wrapped up an unbeaten non-conference slate with a pair of road wins. The Lady Tigers defeated the Kansas Wesleyan University JV 78-52 Friday in Salina before knocking off the Bethany College JV 65-53 Saturday in Lindsborg.

On Friday, a huge second quarter where Cowley out-scored Kansas Wesleyan 30-12 helped the Lady Tigers to a 45-24 halftime lead. Cowley made 14-of-26 three-point attempts in the win over Kansas Wesleyan and out-shot the Lady Coyotes 53.6 percent to 26.3 percent from the floor.

Lady Tiger freshman Seanna Boltz (Oglala Lakota) came off the bench to go 7-of-12 from three-point range and finished with a game-high 21 points as Cowley had 13 of its 14 players score in the win.

“Seanna really played well,” Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. “She got a lot of open looks and knocked them down.”

Freshman guards Milena Fromming and Shontrice Austin also played well and finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Caila Hill led the Lady Coyotes with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Boltz had the hot hand off the bench again on Saturday as she went 5-of-13 from long range and led all scorers with 17 points.

Cowley led 39-19 at the end of the first half and were never really threatened in the 12-point win over a Bethany JV squad that had lost by only two points at Cloud County earlier in the week.

Fromming again finished with 12 points, while Austin added 12 points and nine rebounds. Fellow freshman Jayden Marlnee also played well as she finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Swedes were led by Taryn Kuhn’s 14 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Tigers wrap up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a record of 10-0 and will now prepare to open conference play by hosting Northwest Kansas Tech Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

“I feel like we have gotten better and our schedule allowed us to build a little bit of confidence heading into conference play,” Clark said. “Northwest Tech has got a nice team, so we will need to be better defensively.”
