IRVINE, Calif. – Junior Brad Greene (Shoshone/Paiute) was named the Big West Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 13 the conference announced Monday.
This marks the first career weekly honor for Greene and the first for UCI this season.
The 6-11 center had an impressive performance on both ends of the court in the ‘Eaters conference opening win over Hawai’i. Greene set a new Bren Events Center record grabbing a career-best 21 rebounds against the Warriors. The new record eclipsed the 18 rebounds by CS Fullerton’s Cedric Ceballos on Feb. 24, 1990.
Greene collected his league-leading fourth double-double with 13 points to go along with his 21 boards in UCI’s 74-60 victory over UH. Greene is one of just six players nationally to pull down 21 or more rebounds in a game and became the first Anteater with 20+ boards in a game since 1984. He was four rebounds shy of the UCI record of 25 set by Kevin Magee in 1982.
It was the ninth time in program history an Anteater has grabbed 20+ rebounds in a game. Nine of his 21 came on the offensive end, helping the ‘Eaters to a 13-7 advantage in second chance points.
Greene shot 6-12 from the field with an assist and a blocked shot. He ranks No. 2 in the Big West in rebounds with 7.1 per game.
Greene was also named the College Sports Madness Big West Player of the Week.
