Despite another dominant performance by CooXooEii Black, Colorado College suffered its third loss of the season by three points or less on Saturday afternoon at Trinity University.
Black (Arapaho) poured in a game a game-high 30 points and completed his seventh double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds, but a turnover on its final possession cost CC a shot at a come-from-behind victory and Trinity escaped with an 85-82 win.
The senior forward became the ninth player in program history to score 1,400 or more points and finished the game with 1,413.
Aaron Acosta was 6-for-11 from long range and finished with 21 points for Colorado College. It marked the fifth time this season the sophomore guard scored 20 or more points in a game.
The Texas Tigers led 78-64 after Luke Stuart dialed long distance with 6:49 to play, but CC rallied with an 18-5 surge to pull to within 83-82 when Black sank a pair of free throws with 57 seconds remaining.
After TU missed a three-pointer with 34 seconds to play, Colorado College held the ball for the last shot but committed a turnover with four seconds to go.
After Stuart sank a pair of free throws to give Trinity a three-point lead, CC had two seconds to tie the game, but Scott Cunningham’s desperation three-pointer was off the mark.
Despite trailing by 13 points midway through the first half, Colorado College went on a 20-6 run and took its first lead of the game when Acosta drained a three-pointer with 2:06 remaining in the first half and was ahead 41-39 after 20 minutes.
CC compiled a 45-25 advantage on the glass, but TU made up for the gap by hitting 15 of 29 shots from behind the arc.
