CooXooEii Black (Arapaho) finished with a game-high 20 point as Colorado College overpowers Johnson & Wales

Colorado College wasn’t deterred by Colorado’s cold winter weather that was occurring outside of Reid Arena as the Tigers red-hot shooting produced a commanding 88-56 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Friday night.

CC shot its highest long-range field-goal percentage of the season, hitting 10-of-18 from beyond the three-point line. The Tigers also shot nearly 53 percent from the floor on 33 made field goals, the second most this season, in 63 attempts.

Senior CooXooEii Black (Arapaho) finished with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, and a perfect 8-for-8 effort from the free-throw line. It marked the seventh game in a row and the 13th time this season he finished with 20 or more points.

Black’s first points of the game, on a pair of free throws 2:44 into the first half, marked his third consecutive season scoring 400 points. The forward has now scored 419 points this season and needs only 45 more points to beat his previous season’s record of 463.

The Cougars led 14-10 midway through the first half on a jumper by Kaleb Atherley, but the Tigers struck back when sophomore guards Aaron Acosta and Jack McRoskey teamed up for a steal and a layup to help ignite an 11-3 run to take control.

CC ended the first half with a last-second three pointer by Acosta to give the Tigers a 37-25 lead at halftime.
