BUFFALO, NY – The Mid-American Conference announced their preseason women’s basketball honors on Thursday afternoon with University of Buffalo redshirt senior Summer Hemphill (Seneca Nation) being named to the second team. As a team, Buffalo was picked fourth in the preseason poll. The poll was voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches.
After being named to the Cheryl Miller Award watch list earlier this month, this is Hemphill’s third straight preseason All-MAC honor. She returns to the floor after sitting out last season due to injury. The Buffalo, NY native is currently tied for 10th on UB’s all-time rebounding list with 759 rebounds and is just 81 points away from becoming Buffalo’s 27th 1,000 point scorer. She is also looking to become just the second player in program history to record 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Hemphill is joined on the second team by Jordyn Dawson of Akron, Central Michigan’s Molly Davis and Kyra Bussell and Eastern Michigan’s Areanna Combs.
With the elimination of divisions for the 2020-21 season, the 12 teams were ranked from top to bottom led by Central Michigan who received 10 first place votes and 142 points. Ohio was picked to finish second, and Ball State third, while the Bulls were picked fourth, garnering 108 points. Eastern Michigan rounded out the top five with 94 points.
