TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women’s basketball team tallied its eighth consecutive win and ninth straight victory inside Coleman Coliseum with a 55-45 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday.
Several players highlighted the stat sheet for the Tide as Alabama moved to 10-2 on the year. Brittany Davis captured her 1,000th career point in the game as the graduate student recorded her second double-double of the season off of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Aaliyah Nye tied a career-high seven three-pointers as her season-high 21-point performance in the game led all scorers. Sarah Ashlee Barker tied a career-high 12 rebounds and tallied a season high-five assists while Jada Rice secured three blocks and three steals in the win.
Southeastern Louisiana (5-4) was led by Alexius Horne, who recorded 10 points, while Chrissy Brown tallied six points and a team-leading seven rebounds in the loss.
How It Happened
- A trio of threes gave Alabama an early 11-5 advantage (5:51) to start the game
- UA would extend its lead to 11 (20-9) but a late layup from the Lions brought Southeastern Louisiana within nine points (20-11) by the end of the quarter
- A pair of threes from Aaliyah Nye highlighted an evenly paced second quarter as Alabama ended the opening half with a 12-point lead (30-18)
- Nye led the floor with 12 points off of four three-pointers in the half while Hannah Barber had six points and three boards and Sarah Ashlee Barker added five points, six boards, four assists and a steal
- Alabama shot 35.7 percent in the first half while Southeastern Louisiana was 30.4 percent from the floor
- SLU took a 6-2 run coming out of the break to come within eight points (32-24), but Alabama would push back out to 14 (38-24) with 3:14 on the clock with back-to-back three-pointers from Nye and Karly Weathers
- The two teams traded points to head into the final quarter with Alabama holding a 13-point lead (43-30)
- Southeastern Louisiana paced the opening three minutes with a 7-3 run
- The Lions would come within six points (49-43) with 2:31 to play, but back-to-back three-pointers from Nye kept the game out of reach for a 10-point win
- Alabama shot 38.8 percent from the field while SLU averaged 41.3 percent from the floor
