Josie Hill (Sisseston-Wahpeton) Scored 10 Points and Pulled Down 9 Rebounds for Chicago State in Win over Hartford

The Chicago State women’s basketball team battled it out for the second time this weekend against the Hartford Hawks and won for the second day in the row with a final score of 75-62.

Three Cougars finish in double-figures as Janiah Newell finished with a game-high 20 points, while Taylor Norris put up 11, and Josie Hill tallied 10.

First Quarter – Chicago State 19, Hawks 4
– The Cougars came out hot as they went up 4-0 early with deuces from Cunningham and Tevao 
– The Hawks managed to cut the run with a jumper of their own and trailed only by two at 4-2
– Nonetheless, Chicago State suddenly erupted and managed to outscore the Hawks 15-2 to finish the quarter as Ana Hacklika, Taylor NorrisLaura Segues, and Ahlea Myers all poured in buckets to gift the Cougars an immense lead of 19-4

Second Quarter – Chicago State 37, Hawks 23
– This time the Hawks opened up the scoring with a trey to end their scoring drought and reach a score of 19-7
– However, the Cougars retaliated quickly with a 7-0 run thanks to a trey from Segues and a layup each from  Tae’Lor Willard and Norris to maintain the lead at 26-7
– The Hawks managed to stun the Cougars and finish the quarter outscoring them 16-11 yet they remained atop with a score of 37-23 heading into the half

Third Quarter – Chicago State 59, Hawks 41
– The Hawks continued to outscore the Cougars and managed to start the quarter 6-4 with a score of 29-41
– Fortunately, the Cougars answered back with a ferocious 11-0 run which featured buckets from Norris, Willard, Newell, and Cunningham
– Both teams then went on to scoring back-and-forth on both ends however Chicago State maintained their lead heading into the fourth and final quarter with a commanding lead of 59-41

Fourth Quarter – 
– The Cougars continued to dominate as they opened up the scoring with a tough layup by Newell to increase their lead to 20 at 61-41
– The Hawks answered back with a made free throw which set yet another trend of back-and-fourth scoring that remained through to the final buzzer
– Fortunately, the Cougars managed to take home the win with a final score of 75-62

This caps off the season for the Cougars as they head into the offseason with six wins, tying the 2011-12 team.
