Jacia Cunningham scored a season-high, game-high and team-high 37 points, Josie Hill came up one block short of a triple-double, Ana Haklicka tallied 15, and Evangelina Parrish added 13 and 20 rebounds as Chicago State’s women’s basketball team lost a triple overtime thriller 103-102 to Evansville Sunday afternoon and the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago.
First Quarter – Evansville 20, Chicago State 11
? The Cougars opened the scoring after a tough driving layup from Josie Hill to go up 2-0
? The Purple Aces answered with two free throws and a jumper to take the lead and go up 4-2
? Chicago State bounced back with a jumper from Willard to tie it up at 4-4
? Both teams continued to trade buckets leading to a one-point lead for Evansville at 9-8 when they executed an 11-3 run to finish the quarter to lead by nine, 20-11, after one quarter
Second Quarter – Evansville 33, Chicago State 27
? Chicago State once again kicked off the scoring with one free throw made from Claire Simmons resulting in a 20-12 score
? The Cougars then went on a 10-3 run, featuring buckets from Taylor Norris, Jacia Cunningham, Hill and Simmons to now only trail by one, 23-22
? Evansville answered with a 10-6 run to finish the quarter as they remained in the lead at the half with a 33-27 score
Third Quarter – Evansville 53, Chicago State 49
? The Cougars again opened the scoring, this time with a jumper from Cunningham to now only trail by four at 33-29
? Chicago State managed to outscore the Purple Aces 10-6 with buckets from Cunningham and Parrish to erase their lead to one at 39-38
? Evansville bounced back with a 4-0 run to continue the lead at 43-38
? Both teams then went on to trade buckets much like in the first half, leading to only a four-point lead for the Purple Aces heading into the fourth quarter
Fourth Quarter – Chicago State 71, Evansville 71
? The Cougars continued to open the scoring as Ana Haklicka buried a jumper to trail by two at 51-53
? The teams continued to score back-and-forth leading to yet another tight score and a one-point lead for the Aces at 58-57
? Chicago State then managed to retake the lead for the first time since the first quarter with a bucket from Hill at 59-58
? Evansville bounced back, forcing a 71-71 tie which ultimately led to overtime
