Glendale- The Redhawks defeated the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers 71-69 in a nail-biting game this Saturday evening.
The Redhawks were leading 21 to 16 at the end of the first quarter, where they shot an impressive 60% from the field. In the second quarter the Redhawks held onto their lead 41-37, despite shooting 25% from the field. In the third quarter they lost the lead 57-61. But in the final quarter, the Redhawks were down until 1:16, when Raenesha Willis made a layup to tie the game 67-67. Willis then made a jumper to take the lead back 69-67. Maria Moore then hit a free throw to go up 71-69 with 15 seconds left. The Redhawks stayed strong on defense to seal the win.
The Junior, Maria Moore lead the team with 17 points, shooting 6/11 from the field and making 3/4 of her free throws. The next game standouts were Elise Young and Alize Ruiz both with 10 points. Young also had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Ruiz made 6/6 of her free throws as well as having 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
