Syerra Warte (Navajo) Signs Letter of Intent with Navajo Technical University Cross Country

Crownpoint, NM — On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Syerra Warte officially signed her letter of intent to join the Navajo Technical University (NTU) cross-country team for the upcoming academic year. Initially from Piñon, Arizona, Syerra is enrolled at NTU’s Chinle Instructional Site, pursuing a dual major in Biology and Accounting. She plans to transfer to the main campus in Crownpoint to continue her studies and compete as part of the NTU cross-country team.

Syerra was on the main campus attending a Biology workshop when, during a break, she stopped by the Spring Fling event and spoke with Coach Lee at his booth. Surrounded by Coach Lee, NTU Athletics Director George LaFrance, the NTU Student Senate, and current cross-country team members, Syerra signed her letter of intent, marking the beginning of her journey as a collegiate student-athlete at NTU.

A key factor in Syerra’s decision to join NTU was discovering that the university offers Cross Country as part of its athletic programs. With prior experience in the sport from high school and a continued passion for running, she views the opportunity as a way to stay grounded, clear her mind, and compete at the collegiate level. While she is still considering whether to continue with a dual major after transferring, she has expressed an interest in pursuing a master’s degree in at least one of her current fields of study.
