Allison Denetchee (Navajo) Claims SSAC Title; Named SSAC Conference Runner of the Year

Clinton, Miss.- Allison Denetchee (SR/Navajo Nation/Coolidge, AZ) posted a time of 18:54 to capture the 2014 SSAC Women’s Cross Country Championship at Choctaw Trials on Saturday for William Carey University.

Over 79 runners competed in this year’s championship with Denetchee besting Loyola’s Haley Milsark by four seconds.

For her efforts Allison was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Runner of the Year.

As a team the Lady Crusaders posted a time of 1:46:59 to finish 7^th. Dalton State accumulated 46 points, as each member of its scoring five earned All-Conference honors, placing 5th, 6th, 8th, 12th and 15th, respectively.

Brenau (Ga.), the 2013 conference champion and favorite in the SSAC coaches’ preseason poll, placed second with 59 points and a combined time of 1:39:42.

Blue Mountain (Miss.) (92 points), Loyola (La.) (110 points) and Mobile (Ala.) (135 points) rounded out the top five teams.
