Brokeshoulder seals victory in first appearance

Ashley Brokeshoulder (Shawnee Tribe) made her first appearance of the season in relief as she picked up the win after retiring all seven batters she faced. The junior also had four strikeouts in her 2.1 innings.

LUBBOCK, Texas – Sandy James broke up a 3-3 tie with a fifth inning solo home run to propel Texas Tech to a 4-3 victory over Binghamton Sunday morning at Rocky Johnson Field.

The dinger, James’ fifth of the season, shifted the momentum towards Tech (16-5) after Binghamton (3-7) hit two solo homers in the top of the inning to tie the game.

Katelyn Williams got Tech on the board first in the second inning with a one-out RBI single to left that scored pinch runner Emily Cooper. Williams moved to third on the play after the ball went under Jessica Phillips’ glove.

It was the first of two RBI in the game for Williams who also doubled home a runner in the fourth. She has had an RBI in each of Tech’s last three games.

Emily Bledsoe added Tech’s final run before James’ bomb as she flew a ball to center field that was just deep enough for Williams to score from third.

After going hitless over the first three innings, the Bearcats finally got to Tech starter Kelsey Dennis in the fourth as Mikala King led off with a solo home run to left field.

Binghamton started the fifth with another solo shot this time off the bat of Caitlyn Friis. Phillips also added a two-out solo home run of her own to tie the game and end Dennis’ day after allowing all three runs off only four hits and four strikeouts.

Demi Laney (1-2) took the loss in relief of starter Kate Price. Leaney gave up three runs off two hits in 1.1 innigns of work. Kristen Emerling surrendered just one hit over the final two innings in relief as well.

Binghamton wrapped the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic 1-5 on the weekend and tied with UT-Arlington for second place.
