COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Kam Williams scored 15 points and Shannon Scott added a career-best 14 assists to lead No. 20 Ohio State past Marquette 74-63 on Tuesday night.
Amir Williams had 12 points and Marc Loving scored 10 for the Buckeyes (2-0), who shot 65 percent from the field (32 of 49) — including 8 of 15 on 3-pointers.
Steve Taylor Jr. had 20 points to lead the Golden Eagles (1-1), while Sandy Cohen (Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin) had 9 points on the evening. Sandy, a true freshman, got his second start of his career and played 20 minutes for Marquette.
Kam Williams, who missed last season after contracting mononucleosis, came off the bench to hit six of eight shots from the field, making his first three 3-pointers.
Ahead 33-26 at halftime, the Buckeyes used their press to extend the lead. They twice went on 6-0 runs, the latter with Scott driving through the middle of the lane twice for layups and Kam Williams adding a 10-foot floater to push it to 56-42 by the 10-minute mark.
Ohio State rode a 12-2 run midway through the opening half to take the lead. The spurt was built around a trapping press that resulted in two quick steals that led to 3s by Kam Williams and D’Angelo Russell.
The Buckeyes did have 18 turnovers, 13 in the opening half, and gave up several easy buckets at the back end of their zone.

Marquette: The Golden Eagles have one player taller than 6-foot-7 (6-11 Indiana transfer Luke Fischer) and he won’t be eligible until Dec. 16 against Arizona State. Until then, first-year coach Steve Wojciechowski will go with a one-guard, four-wing alignment that is quick and versatile but, of course, lacks an inside presence at both ends.
Ohio State: For several years, coach Thad Matta seldom went deeper than two or maybe three players on his bench. Early in the season and with a young and inexperienced team, he’s trying a different tactic. For the second game in a row, 10 Buckeyes scored and all got substantial minutes.
