Manny Garcia (Navajo) had 11 points and five rebounds in the win over Barstow

Five Roadrunners scored in double figures in a balanced 75-59 Rio Hondo College win over visiting Barstow Community College on Saturday in Whittier.

Sophomores Mychal Deas and Wesley Burke paced Rio Hondo with 12 points each. Sophomore Manny Garcia (Navajo)added 11 points while Jonathan Cortez and Kyle Maloof both added 10 points.

Rio Hondo led 40-26 at halftime and was up by as many as 23 points at the 11:20 mark in the second after an impressive steal and fastbreak dunk by Garcia.

The Vikings responded with a 12-0 run to cut the Roadrunners lead to 60-49 with eight minutes to play. But Deas scored Rio Hondo’s next five points and the Roadrunners cruised to the win

Barstow (3-16, 0-4 FC) got a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds from John Howard.

The Foothill Conference win improved Rio Hondo to 14-8 overall and 2-2 conference play. The Roadrunners are back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 28) when they host College of the Desert at 5 p.m.
