LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women’s basketball team will celebrate Native American Heritage Night before and during Thursday’s home game versus Chicago State.
The team will hold a pregame rally beginning at 4 p.m. inside the Pan American practice gym located inside the Pan American Annex Building. Members of the American Indian Program at NM State will have a meet and greet with Aggie head coach Mark Trakh and players Abby Scott (Warm Springs Tribes) and Bradley Nash (Navajo Nation), both of whom are of Native American descent.
Prior to the game, former Miss Native NMSU, LaToya Johnson, will sing the National Anthem. Throughout the game videos from Scott and Nash will be shown on the video board.
Finally, there will be a halftime recognition of all Native American student-athletes, faculty and staff at NM State. The 24 Native American tribes of the region will also be recognized at halftime.
The Aggies will try to make it 10-straight wins, including 14 out of their last 15 games, as they meet the Cougars beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday. NM State will also look to go 7-0 in Western Athletic Conference play and complete the first half of the conference schedule undefeated.
