Haskell Indian Nations University Women’s Basketball Pick up More Votes in NAIA Division II Week 7 Poll

Week 7 NAIA Poll

(Lawrence, Kansas) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball program picked up votes in the NAIA Women’s Division II week 7 poll this week. It marked the 4th time that the Lady Indians were receiving votes in the national poll.

Helping Haskell’s (16-5, 5-2) cause in the polls was the recent upset victory over then No. 9 College of Saint Mary over the weekend. Saint Mary’s is one of three teams in the Midlands Collegiate Athletics Conference (MCAC) that are nationally ranked with Haskell now receiving votes. The MCAC conference is second in the NAIA with the most teams nationally ranked. Haskell currently sits in the 3rd place in the conference with the hopes of securing one of four spots available for the MCAC conference tournament.

Haskell is currently led by senior guard Jenine Coriz, who is averaging 14.4 points per game for the Indians. She has been named MCAC player of the week two times this season and has already exceeded 1,000 points for her career. Jenine also currently ranks number 7 in the nation in steals at (3.76) per game and also ranks number 10 in total steals (73).

As a team, Haskell is averaging 73.3 per game while holding their opponents to 62.7 per game. Also as a team, the Lady Indians rank No. 10 in steals per game at (12.3), No. 15 in 3-pointers made per game (7.4), and No. 17 in total steals (259).

The Lady Indians will return to action this weekend for a pair of road games against Waldorf College and College of Saint Mary’s, which is basically the repeat of the previous games. First game is on February 6th with Waldorf, followed by No. 15 College of Saint Mary’s on February 7th.
