CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team earned a pair of America East weekly honors for a third time this year as Lyle Thompson (Onondaga Nation) was chosen as Co-Player of the Week and Connor Fields was named Rookie of the Week for the period ending March 29th.
Thompson earns his second America East weekly honor of the season while Fields picks up his fourth rookie weekly award of the year and third in a row. As a team, UAlbany has earned eight America East weekly honors, including four Player and four Rookie awards.
Thompson and Fields led a UAlbany offense that spearheaded the team to a couple of victories during the week, including a 21-18 win at Harvard, which received votes in each lacrosse poll, and a 25-0 shutout over UMass Lowell for the squad’s third league victory.
Thompson earned a career day against Harvard, tying a program single game record of nine goals and a personal record of 12 points with his three assists, adding two caused turnovers. He only played the first quarter against UMass Lowell, finishing with two goals and two caused turnovers.
Fields earned a career-high eight ground balls at attack at Harvard, adding three goals and an assist. He led the offense in the first half against UMass Lowell, earning a career-high seven goals and nine points with two assists.
Currently, UAlbany sports three of the top five players in points per game in the America East. Thompson, the Division I leader in this category, earns 6.63 points a game, Fields is third in the league with 5.25 a contest and Seth Oakes is 5th in the conference at 3.83 points a game.
Thompson shared Player of the Week honors with Mike Rooney of Stony Brook.
UAlbany will play Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on Thursday, April 2nd at 7 p.m.
