NORMAN – University of Oklahoma women’s basketball signed two top prospects to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Sherri Coale announced Wednesday.
The Sooners will welcome guard Chelsea Dungee (Cherokee Nation/Sapulpa HS) and center Nancy Mulkey (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods HS) to their squad for the 2016-17 season.
Dungee is a 5-11 guard who is rated 16th at her position, and No. 60 overall by ESPN HoopGurlz. She averaged a team-high 16.5 points per game during her junior season for Sapulpa High School, leading her team to the first round of the Oklahoma state playoffs.
As a sophomore at Preston (Okla.) High School, Dungee led her squad to the Oklahoma Class 2A state title while averaging 25.9 points and 5.3 assists per game. She also won a gold medal with USA Basketball at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championships.
“Chelsea is a strong, athletic guard who can score the basketball in a variety of ways,” Coale said. “We fell in love with her competitive zeal, but I think it’s her passion for the game and her hunger to learn that give her such a chance to be special.”
