Haskell Indian Nations University may be playing sans athletics conference this year, but it is one of only eight universities nationwide chosen to don Nike’s flashy new “N7” uniforms during Native American Heritage Month.
The jerseys and shorts are vivid turquoise — a color that represents harmony, friendship and fellowship in Native American culture, Haskell and Nike said in announcing the uniforms Thursday. There’s also an accompanying white T-shirt with a graphic blue and black image of a feather- and mohawk-adorned American Indian warrior.
Haskell Indian Nations University men’s and women’s basketball teams will wear special turquoise Nike uniforms on Nov. 24 to honor Native American Heritage Month, Nike announced Wednesday.

The Haskell men’s and women’s basketball teams will wear the uniforms during their games against Baker University on Nov. 24 at Haskell. The women play at 5:30 p.m., the men at 7:30.
“The uniforms are great,” Haskell athletic director Todd Davis said Thursday night, noting the university will keep the uniforms and wear them on special occasions in the future. “I know both of our basketball teams are excited about wearing them on our special night in November.”
Other teams that will wear the uniforms are Nevada, Oklahoma State, Florida State, San Diego State, Gonzaga, New Mexico and Stanford, according to Nike.
N7 is a Nike initiative to encourage Native American youth to participate in sports. According to Nike, the collegiate uniforms complement the company’s “Power of Perseverance” collection going on sale to the public Saturday.
