Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) has 13 Kills as San Diego sweeps Santa Clara Univeristy

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The seventh-ranked University of San Diego women’s volleyball team picked up its 10th consecutive win, with a 3-0 victory over Santa Clara University Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the 25-18, 26-24, 25-23 win, the Toreros improve to 11-2 overall, move to 2-0 in the WCC and have moved their winning steak to 10. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 9-5 overall, move to 0-2 in the WCC and have now lost five consecutive matches in a row.

Lisa Kramer led all players with 14 kills, while hitting .226, and she had a pair of blocks and two digs. Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe) was the final USD player in double digit kills with 13, while hitting .500 and recording three blocks. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 29 assists, while also picking up seven digs. Hunter Jennings recorded 14 digs to lead the USD defense.

As a team, USD hit for a .273 clip, while SCU hit .202. San Diego recoded 45 digs, while SCU had 35. The Broncos did out block the Toreros, 11.0-8.0

For Santa Clara, Sabrina Clayton led the offense with 11 kills, while hitting .333, and she had three digs. Callie Jones recorded 29 assists, and she has five digs. Taylor Laugero recorded 14 digs, to pace the defense.

San Diego will return to action on Tuesday, as they head up to Los Angeles, to take on the Loyola Marymount University Lions in a 7 p.m. nationally televised ESPNU WCC match.
