A trio of guards – Deonte Burton (Iowa State), Lindy Waters III (Kiowa/Cherokee Nations) and Alex Robinson (TCU) helped their teams to important victories and are the recipients of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week accolades. All three student-athletes are honored for the first time during the 2016-17 season.
PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Deonte Burton, Iowa State, G, Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.
- Scored 29 points with eight rebounds and six steals as Iowa State won at Kansas for the first time since 2005.
- Connected on 7-of-9 shots from beyond the arc as ISU ended the Jayhawks’ 51-game win streak at Allen Fieldhouse.
- Finished with 20.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.5 steals per game for the week.
PHILLIPS 66 BIG 12 NEWCOMERS OF THE WEEK
Lindy Waters III, Oklahoma State, G, Fr., Norman, Okla.
- Made all five attempts from 3-point range last week.
- Converted key 3-pointers against both Oklahoma and West Virginia as the Cowboys extended their win streak to five games.
- Was 6-of-7 (.857) from the field on the week with 17 points and three rebounds plus just one turnover.
Alex Robinson, TCU, G, Jr., Fort Worth, Texas
- Averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds to lead TCU to a 2-0 week.
- Had 12 points and played all 45 minutes as the Frogs won at K-State for the first time as a Big 12 member.
- Scored 17 points with eight assists versus Texas to give TCU its first sweep of UT since 1987.
