Alejandro Rama (Oglala Lakota) Scores 29 Points in return to the court for SD Mines

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The South Dakota Mines men’s basketball team fell on Saturday night on a heartbreaking play as Brevin Walter drove to the hoop, and connected on the shot, but was called for an offensive foul, causing the Hardrockers to lose, 82-80.
 
How it Happened – South Dakota Mines got off to a bit of a slow start, trailing 8-0 early and 13-5 at the first media timeout. Before the second media timeout, the Hardrockers would start to fight back, cutting the deficit to 24-18. Dante Moses scored 24 first half points as New Mexico Highlands would take a 47-33 lead into the break.
 
The second half would start off strong, first with a Trase Olsen three-pointer as the Hardrockers would continue to claw back in. With 17:15 remaining, Brevin Walter would convert an and-1 to bring the deficit to 7, 55-48. The next possession, Alejandro Rama would hit a driving layup, pulling the Hardrockers to within 5. Later, Walter would cut it to one with back-to-back layups. The ‘Rockers would keep it close with Rama cutting it to 1 again with just under 7-minutes to play. Kolten Mortensen would tie it up, hitting a three with 5:15 to play. Dante Moses would continue his great performance, scoring the next three, giving him 41 for the game. The Hardrockers would not die however, with Walter hitting a two, getting fouled and missing the free throw, but the Hardrockers getting the rebound and calling a timeout with 2.3 seconds to go. Brevin Walter would get an opportunity and see the ball go through the hoop, but would be called for an offensive foul, and the Hardrockers fell 82-80.
