Allie Johnston (Chickasaw Tribe) wins first career tournament at RMAC event No. 1

LONGMONT, Colo. – Metropolitan State University of Denver junior Allie Johnston (Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma) won her first career tournament championship on Tuesday, winning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Event No. 1 at Fox Hill G.C. in Longmont, Colorado. The Roadrunners finished second out of 14 teams with a score of 635, eight strokes behind team champion Colorado Mesa.

Johnston was +6 for the tournament at 152, following a round of 74 on Tuesday that included two birdies on the front nine and one on the back nine. Valerie Cruz (Thornton, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) finished tied for third at +12 with a two-day score of 156, firing a 77 on Tuesday. After double bogeys on two of her first three holes, she recovered with four birdies. Reigning RMAC golfer of the week Cha Cha Willhoite (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert H.S.) shot 160 (82-78) and Dani Look (Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View H.S.) rounded out the team’s scoring at 168 (84-84).

MSU Denver will host the GolfScrimmages.com National Championship Preview Sept. 28-29 at CommonGround G.C. in Aurora.
