Big First Half From Desirae Gonzalez (Navajo) Propels Firestorm To Win In Season Opener

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Arizona Christian University women’s basketball program (1-0) opened its season Saturday afternoon with a 98-50 win over the SAGU American Indian Warriors (0-1), inside the ACU Events Center in Glendale, Ariz.

Thoughts from Coach:

After the win, Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, “It felt good to finally get on the floor after practicing for about six to eight weeks.  I was pleased to see how the team chemistry worked in a game situation, and despite needing to clean things up, anyone can tell that we have very talented shooters.  We shared the ball well today and it felt very rewarding to earn the win.”

The Game:

The contest was all-ACU from the jump, with the Firestorm going up 58-21 in the first half behind 21 first-half points from Des Gonzalez (Navajo).  ACU would continue to roll in the second half, outsourcing the Warriors, 40-29 en route to earning the 98-50 victory.
