DENVER – December 31, 2016 – Briana Clah (Navajo) led all scorers with 22 points to lead the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team to a 58-49 win at Regis University Saturday night. The win marked the Skyhawks sixth straight win as they improve to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
“This was a gritty win for our team tonight,” said head coach Jason Flores. “Our defense was pretty good for most of the game and offensively we were aggressive and good enough to get the job done.”
FLC trailed 18-16 after the first quarter but outscored the Rangers in the second stanza, 22-6, to take a 38-24 at halftime.
Clah made 5-of-14 field goals and 10-of-13 free throws as part of her 22 points. Kayla Herrera added 16 points and pulled in eight rebounds. Alyssa Yocky grabbed a game high 13 rebounds added eight points, one steal, one blocked shot and one assist.
The Skyhawks were held to 2-of-10 field goals in the fourth quarter and without a field goal for the final four minutes and 15 seconds. FLC finished the game making 34 percent from the floor (17-of-50).
FLC grabbed their largest lead of the game in the third quarter of 16 points, 40-24, before the Rangers went on a 10-3 run to cut the Skyhawks lead down to nine points, 43-34.
The Skyhawks will continue their four game road swing Jan. 6 at MSU Denver and Jan. 7 at UCCS.
