DURANGO, Colo. – January 20, 2017 – The Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team nearly pulled off an upset season sweep over No. 25 Regis University Friday night at Whalen Gymnasium. The Skyhawks fell to the Rangers, 79-74. FLC defeated RU on Dec. 31 in Denver, 58-49.
With the setback, FLC moves to 13-5 overall and 8-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The nationally ranked Rangers improve to 14-2 overall and 9-2 in conference games.
For the second straight game, junior Shelby Patterson recorded a career high in scoring. Patterson bested last Saturday’s mark of 19 points with a game high 22 points tonight. She made 15-of-18 free throws to go with three assists and three rebounds.
Alyssa Yocky added 17 points on 5-of-8 field goals and made all six free throw attempts while pulling down six rebounds. Briana Clah (Navajo) chipped in 15 points and three steals and Kayla Herrera added 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Kelsey Wainright came off the bench to net eight points. She was perfect from the floor (2-of-2) and free throw line (4-of-4).
The Skyhawks were outrebounded by 14, 40-26, including 16-7 on the offensive glass.
FLC made 20-of-49 field goals for 40.8 percent and 28-of-32 free throws for 87.5 percent. The 28 made free throws are a season high and the 32 attempts are the second most this season.
Fort Lewis will conclude their four game home stand Saturday against Chadron State College. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
