DURANGO, Colo. – February 10, 2017 – A defensive shutout in the second quarter propelled the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team to a 67-36 win Friday night in Whalen Gymnasium against Western State Colorado University.
The 36 points allowed ties for the third fewest ever allowed in program history, and it is the lowest allowed by any team in the league this season.
With the win, FLC improves to 17-6 overall and 12-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Western State drops to 5-17 overall and 4-14 in the RMAC.
FLC held a slight edge after the first quarter, 16-13, and proceeded to outscore the Mountaineers 19-0 in the second quarter. The Skyhawks held WSCU scoreless for 15:30 while going on a 35-0 run. During the Mountaineers scoring drought, WSCU went 0-for-21 from the floor (0-for-9 in three-point field goals) and 0-for-2 from the charity stripe.
Briana Clah led all scorers with 19 points after hitting 7-of-10 field goals, including all three three-point field goals. She added five rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Alyssa Yocky chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists, and Natalie Stilwell came off the bench to net 10 points.
Stilewell and Ande Lampert posted four blocks each as FLC finished with 10 blocks on the Mountaineers.
Despite being out-rebounded 43-35, FLC outscored WSCU on second chance points, 9-7.
The Skyhawks hit half of their field goals, 27-of-54, and made 5-of-9 three-point field goals. WSCU was held to 20 percent from the floor (11-of-55).
Fort Lewis will play host to Colorado Mesa University Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
