NOTES TO KNOW
STELLAR START: Wisconsin has opened the season 14-1 or better for the third time in the modern era, with all three coming under Bo Ryan (also 2006-07, 2013-14).
BEATING THE BEST: According to ESPN.com RPI rankings, UW owns nine top-100 wins, the most in the nation. Virginia is second with eight and Kansas has seven.
BIG TEN BEASTS: Since Bo Ryan took over, Wisconsin has won five Big Ten titles — three regular season, two tournament (only OSU has more). Ryan’s .704 win percentage (157-66) is the highest in Big Ten history.
SPECIAL K-AMINSKY: Preseason All-American Frank Kaminsky is living up to the hype. Kaminsky is one of just two major conference players to lead his team in points (16.6), rebounds (8.5), blocks (29) and steals (18), while pacing the Big Ten with seven double-doubles. Through two Big Ten games, Kaminsky is averaging 17.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg.
DEKKER BACK TO HEALTH: After being hobbled by an ankle injury for a few games, Sam Dekker has returned to form averaging 15.7 ppg and 5.7 rpg while shooting 59.3% from the field (50.0% on 3FGs) over the last six games.
HAYES’ EXPANDED GAME: In year two at UW, Nigel Hayes has taken his game to new heights averaging 12.4 ppg and 7.0 rpg. He scored 21 points last Wednesday vs. Penn State and is shooting a team-high 58.6% on the year.
BALANCING ACT: According to Ken Pomeroy’s efficiency rankings, the Badgers are second in the nation in adjusted offense (119.0) and 17th in defense (90.0). UW is one of six teams to rank among the top 20 in both categories.
WHY UW IS GOOD: In addition to tough defense, UW doesn’t foul (third in the nation at 13.4 fouls per game), doesn’t turn it over (second in NCAA with 8.5 TOs per game) and controls the glass (+7.6 rebound margin leads Big Ten).
HOME COOKING: Wisconsin is 201-22 (.901) at the Kohl Center under Bo Ryan, owning the nation’s fourth-highest home win percentage in that span (since 2001-02). Ryan’s teams are 97-14 (.874) all-time vs. the Big Ten at home.
