BUFFALO, NY – Buffalo State women’s hockey forward Rylee Garrow (Mohawk Nation) was named the Northeast Women’s Hockey League (NEWHL) Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The award honors the best first-year athlete in the conference for the week of Monday, Jan. 3 through Sunday, Jan. 9.
Garrow, a sophomore Early Childhood Education major, led the Bengals to a 1-0-1 record over two games last weekend, scoring the first two goals of her career and adding two assists, while also winning 32 of 45 faceoff attempts.
After recording a career-high six shots on goal in Friday’s 1-1 tie with Rivier University, Garrow was the driving force behind a 5-2 Buffalo State victory over Rivier on Saturday afternoon, scoring twice, and adding two assists. She also won 22 of 29 faceoffs in the game. Garrow recorded a point on the Bengals’ first four goals of the game, blasting a rebound past the Rivier goalie in the second period for her first collegiate goal, and added an insurance goal in the third period front right in front of goal.
