by NEW ORLEANS – Troy women’s basketball junior Caitlyn Ramirez (Seminole Nation of Oklahoma) was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team, the league announced on Tuesday. Ramirez was named to the third team for her first career All-Sun Belt selection.
Ramirez ranks third in the Sun Belt in field goal percentage at 52.8 percent and ranks 13th in scoring with 12.1 points per game. She leads Troy and ranks in the Sun Belt top 10 with 6.9 rebounds per game. During Troy’s current stretch of seven wins in eight games, she is leading the way with 8.3 rebounds per game.
The Shawnee, Okla., native has scored in double figures 21 times and is the only player in the Sun Belt to shoot over 50 percent overall and over 35 percent from 3-point range.
Ramirez becomes the fourth different player to earn All-Sun Belt honors in Chanda Rigby‘s four seasons as head coach at Troy. The two selections give Troy seven All-Sun Belt selections in Rigby’s four seasons, two more than it had in its previous seven seasons in the Sun Belt combined.
the Trojans open the Sun Belt Championships on Wednesday when they take on South Alabama at 2 p.m. at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.
