(Lawrence, Kansas) – The Haskell Indians (2-8) were returning home to Coffin Sports Complex, looking to put a six game losing-streak behind them while facing Central Methodist University (11-5). These two teams had met just last week, on September 12th, in the Avila University Tournament, with the Indians falling to the Eagles in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-19.
Haskell came out determined not to fall behind early like they had the last time these two met. Haskell was lead from strong play by Raquel Aguino (23 digs) and Aspen Sheperd (10 kills), the Indians were able to keep up with CMU until the end of the first set. Haskell would drop that crucial first set 25-21. In the second set, Central Methodist, led by Lindsay Smith (15 kills), would be too much to handle. Haskell would drop the second set 25-14. Coming back out on the floor for the third set, Haskell knew they had their backs against the wall. After falling behind early in the third set, the Indians found a late spark after a Dani Clyde kill. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be enough, and the Indians would fall in straight sets to the Eagles of Central Methodist.
Haskell will look to pick up their third win of the season at home against Missouri Valley College on Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:00 P.M
