Chelsea Dungee (Cherokee) and Sooner Women win Spain finale Wednesday night in Barcelona

BARCELONA, Spain –  Oklahoma women’s basketball completed its foreign tour to Spain with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating the Barcelona All-Stars, 78-62, Wednesday night.

For the second straight game, junior guard Gabbi Ortiz led the Sooners in scoring. The Racine, Wis., native poured in a game-high 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting along with four steals and two assists. Ortiz was nearly perfect from downtown, hitting three of four attempts from 3-point range.

Senior guard Gioya Carter added in 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Carter was 6-of-11 from the floor in 16 minutes of action, while recording two assists. Senior guard T’ona Edwards chipped in nine points and junior center Vionise Pierre-Louis totaled eight points in the victory.

Oklahoma built an early lead and trailed for just over three minutes in the first quarter. The Sooners opened the game by knocking down 10-of-19 shots from the field in the opening frame.

The Sooners used a strong second half for the second consecutive game to pull away for the double-digit victory. OU posted a .420 shooting percentage in the second half as Carter and Ortiz scored eight points apiece in the game’s final 20 minutes.

Freshman newcomer Chelsea Dungee (Cherokee Nation) contributed 7 points for the Sooners in 17 minutes of play. In the 3 game exhibition in Spain, Dungee averaged 6.7 ppg and averaged 14 minutes of playing time.

OU posted a .423 (30-for-71) field goal percentage, shot .400 (6-for-15) from beyond the arc and hit a .857 (12-for-14) clip from the free throw line.

Ortiz led the Sooners in scoring in two of its three games in Spain, averaging 14.0 points a contest and shooting .519 from the field and .438 clip from 3-point range. Senior guard Peyton Little posted a 10.3 scoring average for OU in its three matchups.

Pierre-Louis led the Sooners in rebounding (7.7 rpg), while Edwards ranked first on the team in assists (4.7 apg).

After nine days away on their preseason tour, the Sooners will return to Norman, Okla., Friday evening.
